Following a recent string of high-profile pardons, Donald Trump has opened up on the possibility of pardoning his former friend, Diddy, amid his ongoing federal case. The music mogul, whos tangled up in a sex trafficking and racketeering trial brought along by Cassies civil lawsuit, is facing life in prison if found guilty of his crimes. While addressing Diddys legal drama, however, Trump opened up about his past bond with the rapper and extended his thoughts on the probability of pardoning him. Here’s the lowdown…
Trumps second term in office has brought along many pardons in the past few weeks. From freeing former Chicago gang leader Larry Hoover to NBA YoungBoy and even reality TVs Todd and Julie Chrisley, Trumps been clearing slates left and right to those he believes were unfairly targeted or prosecuted. So, when Fox News Peter Doocy stepped up to the press conference on May 30 and asked if Trump would consider pardoning Diddy, the room got real quiet, y’all.
As you know, Diddys currently on trial in a Manhattan federal court, facing five charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking by force. Doocy brought up Trumps 2012 shoutout, calling Diddy a good friend before asking, Would you ever consider pardoning him?
Trump hit back with, Nobodys asked. You had to be the one to ask, Peter. I know people are thinking about it. He admitted he hasnt been following Diddys trial closely, but he knows it has had the media in a frenzy over the past few weeks. First of all, I’d look at what’s happening, he said, leaving the door open for a possible clemency move.
The president didnt shy away from reminiscing about their once-tight bond. I havent seen him, I havent spoken to him in years, he shared. Apparently, Diddy was all about Trump back in the day, but things went left when Trump jumped into politics. He used to really like me a lot, but I think when I ran for politics, that relationship sort of busted up, he said.
He even heard Diddy previously throwing some shade his way in the press, calling them nasty statements that appeared to have left the president feeling a little taken aback. But Trump made it clear hes not here for the popularity contest. If I think somebody was being mistreated, whether they like me or dont like me, it wouldnt have any impact, he declared. So, whether Diddys Team Trump or not, the president says hed consider a pardon if the facts show Diddys been done dirty.
