Erica Mena Defends Saying She Wanted To Leave Her Vacation With Bernice Burgos’ Skin Tone: ‘I Actually Do Get Color Naturally’

On the heels of Erica Mena falling into controversy over her decision to call Spice a racial slur, she’s back in the hot seat and defending herself for saying she wanted to leave her vacation “the same color” as Bernice Burgos.

Erica Denies “Black Facing” Allegations Following Comment About Bernice Burgos

During a recent Instagram Live, Erica showed herself chillin’ in the pool with a handful of friends. The reality star shared that she plans to get married again before revealing that she has “more movies” on the way, with one slated to premiere around Christmastime.

Additionally, she can be heard proclaiming, “I better leave here the same color as Bernice [Burgos].”

After catching some flak for her comment about Bernice Burgos’ skin tone, Erica Mena stepped into The Shade Room‘s comment section and attempted to clear the air.

“Who doesn’t want to have bernice beautiful color? Especially on vacation. The fact that I actually do get color naturally in the sun ALL my life and it’s now me being considered black facing is pathetic.”

She added, “This is insane how pressed people are about someone they claim is ‘cancelled.'”

Erica Mena Accuses Mona Scott-Young Of “Desperately Trying To Save Face”

This development follows Erica Mena getting hit with backlash after referring to Spice as a “blue monkey” during an argument.

As The Shade Room reported, the incident broke out during a recent episode of LHHATL. Erica Mena later declared that her word choice “was not in any way racially driven.”

Eventually, LHHATL hosted a roundtable discussion on racism and colorism, which Mena called “trying to save face.”

Producer Mona Scott-Young later spoke on the situation during an appearance on Way Up with Angela Yee, pushing back against the narrative that she was involved “with the cuts.”

“At this point, I see the show on the same basis that they see the show. I’m not involved with the cuts anymore. I’m not in the field — the cast will tell you this.”

In response to Mona’s claims, Erica brought up her Instagram post on the subject, which merely read, “Handled.”

Beneath a clip of Scott-Young’s sit-down with Angela Yee, Erica Mena said that — on account of Mona acknowledging that she isn’t “involved with the cuts” anymore — her “Handled” post was an attempt at “desperately trying to save face.” Oop!
