George W. Bush Mistakenly Criticizes Putin’s “Brutal Invasion Of Iraq” Instead Of UkraineĀ

On Thursday, former president George W. Bush found himself trending on social media after a clip of his recent speech started to circulate online after he misidentified the country that has been invaded by Russia.

According to MSNBC, Bush was speaking at his presidential center in Dallas, TX and while speaking about Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, he slipped up and mentioned the wrong country. He said,

“In contrast, Russian elections are rigged, political opponents are imprisoned or otherwise eliminated from participating in the electoral process. The result is an absence of checks and balances in Russia, and the decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq. I mean of Ukraine…Iraq…anyway…”

He then blamed the mishap on his age, noting that he is 75-years-old, which brought the crowd to laughter.

What was ironic about his statement is that during his time as president of the United States, he was actually the one who invaded Iraq when he declared war following the 9/11 attacks. It didn’t take too long for folks to react to George W. Bush’s slip-up.
