“I want you all to know that you are really welcome here and that we respect what you have had to deal with these last few years,” said Landau.
This decision follows years of heated rhetoric from former President Donald Trump, who earlier that day doubled down on his claims that white farmers in post-apartheid South Africa are facing “genocide.” Trump claimed they are “being killed” and promised to raise the issue with South African officials. It was also reported, after President Donald Trump unveiled the relocation program in February, the U.S. fast-tracked the applications of the 59 South Africans.
