Jamie Lynn Spears Says She Did Not Oversee Funds In Britney Spears' Conservatorship

Jamie Lynn Spears Says She Did Not Oversee Funds In Britney Spears’ Conservatorship

Fans rejoiced in November 2021 when a judge finally ruled to free Britney Spears from her 13-year conservatorship. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penn gave Britney the green light to regain control of her life and personal assets, including those pop star coins! Now, just a few months later, it looks like press runs for Jamie Lynn Spears’ new memoir are in full swing and her first stop aired on ‘Good Morning America’ on Wednesday.

“It was really important to me to, first off, honor my voice,” Jamie told interviewer Juju Chang of ABC News. “I have to do it or how else can I expect my daughters to stand up for themselves?”

Bye, Bye Britney Spears’ Conservatorship

At one point, Juju asked Jamie Lynn about her reaction to Britney’s conservatorship ending.

“I was happy. I was,” Jamie Lynn said. “When it was put into place I was 17 years old. I was about to have a baby, so I didn’t understand what was happening. Nor was I focused on that. I was focused on the fact that I was a 17-year-old about to have a baby. I understand just as little about it then as I do now.”

Jamie Lynn’s Conservatorship Role

The 30 year-old actress and singer also answered questions about her role in overseeing the finances in Britney’s estate. She revealed Britney once asked her to make sure her nephews Sean and Jayden Federline “got what they needed.” Jamie said she saw this request as “a very normal thing,” regardless of the conservatorship status. But, Jamie Lynn later changed her mind about her involvement.

“Once I realized that, you know what she’s in a conservatorship, I felt like I just didn’t want to be a part of until maybe she was out of the conservatorship,” Jamie Lynn said. “There was no like me overseeing funds or something like that and if that was it was a misunderstanding, but either way I took no steps to be a part of it.”

Jamie Says She Went Out Of Her Way To Help Britney

Back in June 2021, Jamie first broke her silence about Britney’s case with a few-minutes-long video post to Instagram. Jamie expressed her only concern being Britney’s “happiness” because she had nothing to “gain or lose” from the conservatorship. At the time, she also mentioned making a “conscious choice” to only participate in Britney’s life as an aunt to her sons.  With Juju Chang, Jamie Lynn also clarified her role in helping Britney end the conservatorship.

“I’ve always been my sister’s biggest supporter,” Jamie said. “So when she needed help, I set up ways to do so. Went out of my way to make sure that she had the contacts she needed to possibly go ahead and end this conservatorship and just end this all for our family. If it’s going to cause this much discord, why continue it?”

Britney & Jamie’s Relationship

Earlier on, the mother of two daughters, 13 year-old Maddie and three-year-old Ivey, explained her own relationship with her sister. She mentioned adoring Britney while growing up and considering her “another momma.”

During the exclusive interview, Juju pointed out that Jamie Lynn described Britney’s behavior changes over the years as “erratic,” “paranoid,” and “spiraling” in her memoir. Then, the reporter asked Jamie’s opinion about Britney’s current mental health state.

“I can’t really speak to anyone else’s state of mind. I don’t think that’s fair, but I’m allowed to say how I felt in those because that matters,” Jamie Lynn said. “It matters that I was in pain.”

Fans have speculated that Britney and Jamie’s relationship is on the rocks after Britney unfollowed her sister on Instagram recently. Jamie maintained her love for Britney in her response to their relationship status.

“That love is still there. 100 percent. I love my sister,” Jamie Lynn said. “I’ve only ever loved and supported her and done what’s right by her, and she knows that, so I don’t know why we’re in this position right now.”
