Tory Lanez and Judge Herriford are due back in court this morning (Aug. 8) for continued proceedings in his sentencing, per The Shade Room. But the stand-out bit from yesterday’s process seemed to be that Iggy Azalea wrote a letter on Tory’s behalf.

As social media users engaged in discourse about her letter, Iggy addressed her decision on X (formerly Twitter) in bullet-style format. She denied having any contact with Lanez “for months” and revealed she did not expect the public to learn of her letter.

“For the record: 1. I have not been in touch with Tory for months, I have no reason to be, but I do wish him well. 2. I don’t “support” anyone. The whole thing is full of oddities. My letter never mentioned anything in regard to what happened that night. 3. I was told this was for a judge only, yet it’s being discussed in public? I never intended to publicly comment.”

The news gained traction on X when Legal Affairs Reporter Meghann Cuniff shared that the judge received over 70  “letters of support for Tory Lanez.” She tagged Iggy, adding that the judge summarized each letter.

As of Tuesday, that tweet has over 10.9 million views. Cuniff later read a quote from the pop singer’s letter in a re-cap video of day one proceedings.

“[Iggy] urged [the judge] to impose a sentence that is transformative and not life-destroying,” Meghann revealed.

Cuniff added that additional letters came from “family members, managers,” and Tory’s six-year-old son–whose submission was hand-written.

Soon after Iggy shared her now-deleted statement on X, Cuniff revealed the judge’s plans to publicize all the support letters.

In her continued bullet point list, Azalea explained that she believes in “prison reform” and rehabilitation versus “throwing away ANY one’s life.”

“4. I am not in support of throwing away ANY ones life if we can give reasonable punishments that are rehabilitative instead. I support prison reform. Period. 5. I was asked to wrote about my genuine experienced and the type of punishment I think he deserves: I did,” Iggy Azalea revealed on X.

The artist and model didn’t specify the “type of punishment” Tory “deserves.” However, as reporter Cuniff stated, her letter will soon be public record.

Judge Decides On Aggravating Factors In Tory Lanez’s Sentencing

We know that Los Angeles prosecutors asked Judge Harriford to sentence Lanez to 13 years in a  memorandum submitted in June 2023. They stated that Lanez waged “a campaign of misinformation to re-traumatize the victim,” adding that he “lacks remorse” and accountability.

On Monday, Judge Herriford confirmed he’d consider the aggravating factors of the use of a gun and Megan Thee Stallion’s vulnerability as a victim, per Cuniff. However, he decided, considering that the crime was committed with a “high level of callousness.”

Meanwhile, days before the ruling, Lanez’s lawyers petitioned for probation while maintaining Tory is innocent of the charges. They’re asking the judge to also consider a treatment program, citing “childhood trauma” and “charitable activities” as factors to consider in his ruling.

Iggy concluded her public reaction to her letter by saying:

“It’s not really that interesting, but I understand why it’s being sensationalized. See ya next week to discuss pizza toppings I suppose. Lol.”
