Roommates, heartbreaking news is continuing to unfold following the passing of Jacksonville rapper Lil Poppa. New details have now been confirmed about what led to the 25-year-old artists sudden death, and the information is leaving fans stunned.
According to the Fulton County Medical Examiners Office in Georgia, Lil Poppas death has officially been ruled a suicide. Officials confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound to the head. The ruling comes shortly after initial reports of his passing began circulating online, sending shockwaves through social media and the hip-hop community.

Born Janarious Mykel Wheeler, the rapperwidely known as Lil Poppawas raised in Jacksonville, Florida, where he began rapping at a young age. Friends say he started performing around age 7, often alongside peers from his church community. Over time, he carved out a lane for himself with introspective lyrics and a calm, restrained delivery that spoke on mental health, loyalty, pain, and relationships. His storytelling style earned him a dedicated fan base who saw their own struggles reflected in his music.
At the time of his passing, Lil Poppa was signed to Collective Music Group, the label founded by Yo Gotti. The roster also includes artists like GloRilla. Those who worked closely with Wheeler described him as focused, driven, and grounded despite his growing success. Producer Scotty OTH shared heartfelt words with WTLV, reflecting on the man behind the music. Hes just a great guy. Outside of the music and the artistry, man, he was a good human, and Ill never forget him, he said.
