With Black Music Month upon us, people are paying homage to noteworthy contributions that Black musicians have made throughout the years. In fact, Black Music Action Coalition board member Naima Cochrane came thru and unveiled 2023’s #BlackMusicMonthChallenge, which provides users with daily prompts to look back on various artists’ different musical contributions. For Day 12 of this challenge, users reflected on “A remix that completely changed the song,” and many of the responses contained shoutouts to the one-and-only Mariah Carey!

Once the discussion got rollin’, it was clear that Mariah was DOMINATING the conversation with her revamped hits, such as the “Heartbreaker” remix that features Da Brat and Missy Elliott.
Mariah’s Heartbreaker remix is my fave remix of all remixes. Few did it like this. https://t.co/uQgSaU2sLl pic.twitter.com/LtH9WpSJnS

Literally Mariah Carey on every single remix. She’d be the studio adding whole new beats and melodies, vocals, lyrics and features…the girls just aren’t of this calibre anymore pic.twitter.com/9YPpNgCmik https://t.co/h01hYMLt1i

While listing some iconic Mariah Carey remixes, her “Fantasy” revamp featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard (ODB) got a particularly good amount of love.
One Twitter user went as far as proclaiming, “Mariah was the blueprint for the merging of pop + hip-hop.” PERIOD!
Taking it further: a remix that changed HISTORY.
Fantasy feat. ODB stripped the pop elements of the OG to create a laidback banger. Mariah was the blueprint for the merging of pop + hip-hop; a formula artists like Taylor, Beyoncé, and Katy Perry still emulate. https://t.co/CWgTjoBVDV pic.twitter.com/NxroZcR9Mi

Aside from “Fantasy,” another fan said that an additional bop from “the remix queen” is the version of “Always Be My Baby” that features Xscape and Da Brat.
The remix queen has a few and I know “Fantasy” is going to be mentioned a few times but the remix to “Always Be My Baby,” is one of my faves. Whole new song and video for that remix. pic.twitter.com/tT04Dy7Yln

The “Make It Last Remix” to “Thank God I Found You,” which features Joe and Nas, also made the cut.
