Here are the celebs who passed away in 2025.
Celebs Who Passed Away: DJ Unk
The hip-hop world was reeling from the sudden death of Atlanta legend DJ Unk in January, the man behind that iconic 2006 hit ‘Walk It Out’ that had everybody snapping and stepping in the clubs. Real name Anthony Leonard Platt, the 43-year-old Southern rap pioneer reportedly died in his sleep after suffering a heart attack, as confirmed by his devoted wife, Sherkita Long-Platt, to TMZ.
Additionally, she shut down rumors of substance abuse, stressing it was a clean, unexpected tragedy. Fans have since been pouring out their love online, remembering Unk’s energy at his live performances. Furthermore, in a raw Facebook post, Sherkita poured out her grief, writing:
“Please respect me and my family. I just lost my husband, and my kids just lost their father. Our life will never be the same. I LOVE YOU ANTHONY FOREVER.”
Irv Gotti
News of Irv Gotti’s passing in New York City on Wednesday, February 5, was unexpected, to say the least. His brother Chris has since revealed that Irv had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke… brain bleeding triggered by his long battle with Type 1 diabetes complications. Roomies, keep in mind, The Shade Room reported Irv’s earlier stroke in August 2024, reportedly sparked by skipping insulin and ignoring doctors’ diet pleas amid his diabetes struggles. Despite bouncing back then, this fatal episode hit hard after a night of poker and Chinese food, per The Root, as revealed by Gotti’s brother, Chris. From crafting countless hit songs like Ja Rule‘s ‘Always on Time’ and multiple Ashanti tracks to unforgettable Hip-Hop feuds, Irv’s legacy will go down in music history. Additionally, he leaves behind his three kids, Angie, Sonny, and JJ.
