Shoutout To The Stepparents! 7 Celebs Who Embrace Their Role As Bonus Parents

Parenthood is no easy feat, and navigating the waters of being a stepparent can be just as tricky.

However, plenty of people have stepped up to the plate and wholly embraced their role as a “bonus parent,” including some big-name stars.

In honor of National Stepparents Week, here are seven celebrities who have stepped up to the plate as bonus parents!

#1

Russell Wilson

First, we have NFL star Russell Wilson, who has taken Ciara‘s firstborn child, Future Zahir Wilburn, under his wing.

As Russell has been in Ciara’s life since 2015, he and her firstborn have certainly formed quite a bond, and this is extra evident in Russell’s loving birthday messages to his stepson.

Earlier this year, Russ praised Future as “a Leader [who is] Compassionate to others, an amazing big brother, and an amazing son.”

Just one year earlier, Russell called Future “the greatest blessing in the world,” and the proud stepparent has plenty of other posts featuring his “Forever Buddy.”

#2

Jada Pinkett Smith

Next up is Jada Pinkett Smith, who is a stepmother to Will Smith‘s son with Sheree Zampino—Willard “Trey” Smith III.

Closer reports that, in a 2013 Facebook post, Jada spoke on the importance of people welcoming their partner’s children with open arms.

In fact, she openly declared, “When I married Will, I knew Trey was part of the package. Period!… I can’t support any actions that keep a man from his children of a previous marriage.”

“We can’t say we love our man and then come in between him and his children. THAT’S selfishness—not love. WOMAN UP!”

You betta PREACH, Jada!

We should also add that, beneath an Instagram post commemorating Trey’s 30th birthday, Sheree said she loves Jada before dubbing her the “Best Bonus Mom Ever.”

#3

Gabrielle Union

Of course, Gabrielle Union is another celebrity who is a proud stepmom.

Through her relationship with Dwyane Wade, Gabrielle is a bonus mom to Zaire and Zaya Wade. Additionally, Dwyane has another son, Xavier, who was conceived during a brief split between him and Gabrielle.

Regarding Gabrielle’s stepmotherly duties, Zaya previously detailed how Union has imparted wisdom over the years, as The Shade Room reported.

“The lesson has changed over time, but more recently it’s that beauty is in yourself… She tries to teach me that beauty standards are arbitrary and that they don’t mean anything.”

Furthermore, Gabrielle and Dwyane spoke about “always” being “10 toes down” for Zaya while giving her a loving shoutout on Instagram. IKTR!

#4

Jason Momoa

When it comes to loving stepparents, Aquaman actor Jason Momoa deserves a shoutout, too.

Jason became a stepfather to Zoë Kravitz when he began a relationship with Lisa Bonet in 2005—though they didn’t tie the knot until 2017.

Once he and Lisa called it quits back in early 2022, though, Jason made sure to support his stepdaughter still.

When Zoë hosted Saturday Night Live in March 2022, Jason shared a clip on Instagram and noted that he was “so proud” of Kravitz. Shortly ahead of this, he also implored fans to watch her star in The Batman.

Even though Jason and Lisa are no longer together, he’s still coming thru and treating Zoë like one of his own!

#5

Eniko Hart

Eniko Hart has also embraced her role as a stepparent.

Through her marriage to Kevin Hart, Eniko is a stepmother to Heaven and Hendrix Hart — and a warm message from her stepdaughter suggests that she’s doing a phenomenal job.

Back around Valentine’s Day 2018, Eniko shared a sweet note that Heaven left her, and she was praised as the “G.O.A.T.” and praised as “the best.”

Eniko remarked that she found the message on her laptop, which “warmed [her] heart.”

We should also add that Eniko just recently congratulated Heaven on her high school graduation and told her she’ll “do wonderful things in this world.”

#6

Diddy

While on this subject, it’s only fitting that we acknowledge Diddy as well.

When Diddy began dating the late Kim Porter in the mid-1990s, he took her firstborn child—Quincy Brown—under his wing. Although Diddy and Kim were never officially married, he remains a constant fixture in Quincy’s life.

Earlier this year, Quincy reflected on the impact that his “Pops” has had on him during a sit-down with PEOPLE.

“I think I’ve been a sponge, and now I do so much… Just seeing how he’s able to handle and juggle all these things, I took that from him as my most major takeaway.”

Warmly, when Diddy recently shared a photo of all his children, he was sure to include a baby picture of Quincy. We love to see it!

#7

Kandi Burruss

Last but certainly not least, we have Kandi Burruss.

When the longtime Real Housewives of Atlanta star wed Todd Tucker in 2014, she officially became a stepmother to Kaela Tucker, who’s about six years older than Riley Burruss.

RHOA fans will recall that Todd and Kandi’s different approaches to financially supporting their kids have come up in the past, and many fans have specifically slammed Todd’s style.

However, in one season 14 scene, Kandi was sure to advocate for Kaela by calling Todd out for “always [wanting to] teach a lesson,” and Kaela acknowledged how Kandi comes through where Todd falls short.

“You have a mom instinct. To me, he thinks business-wise all the time. It’s never ‘Daddy’ and ‘Business.’ It’s business most of the time.”

A large part of being a solid stepparent is swooping in to help fill in the gaps overlooked by their partner, and Kandi appears to show Kaela grace while Todd values being “tough.”

Shoutout to all the phenomenal stepparents out there!
