A late-night stop at a Florida McDonald’s turned way left and it wasnt the fries causing heat this time. Lets just say a little drive-thru delay led to an altercation. And now? Charges have been filed, and everybodys pointing fingers.
According to a statement from Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, things went left around 3 a.m. on Oct. 12, when 21-year-old McDonalds employee Yoan Soto was working an overnight shift in Davenport. Two customers Peter Story, 19, and Nicholas Jones, 18 allegedly got heated about the long wait time in the drive-thru and started threatening Soto after he explained they were overwhelmed with online orders. Judd says Soto even apologized and admitted the system was behind, but the duo reportedly didnt want to hear it and told him theyd be waiting for him when his shift ended at 4 a.m.
Things escalated when the pair allegedly returned and came inside the McDonalds. Surveillance footage shows a confrontation in the lobby, with Soto pulling out a firearm after the threats reportedly continued and one of the men allegedly flashed what the sheriff described as a switch and a 30-clip. The restaurant manager even tried to break things up, but it was too late the situation spiraled. In the video, Soto fires the gun during a struggle, hitting Peter Story in the neck. Thankfully, the wound was minor, but as Sheriff Judd put it: When you start shooting McGuns, you get peoples McAttention.
After the shooting, Story and Jones allegedly ran off and Soto, now McScared, fled the scene too, but not before picking up the shell casings. Now Soto is facing a felony charge for tampering with evidence, while Story and Jones are being charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct. The sheriff says Soto may have had a legal right to defend himself, but warned folks not to flee after a shooting. As for the whole situation? It was just a McMess, Judd said. But well sort it out because we are McGood at investigating McCrime.
