Miguel finally broke his silence on fatherhood and the buzz around his new partner, Margaret Zhang, following his split from Nazanin Mandi. In a recent interview, the R&B singer put rumors to rest, clarifying he was divorced before starting his new relationship. But, you know, the internet had plenty to say and some folks are still giving him the side-eye.
As previously reported, Miguel quietly welcomed a son, Angelito, with filmmaker Margaret Zhang last year. In a recent interview on ‘The Breakfast Club,’ Miguel kept it real and set the record straight on the rumors surrounding his divorce and the timeline of his son’s birth. Miguel revealed that he and Zhang met after his divorce was finalized, at an event they werent even supposed to attend. If you didnt know, Miguels longtime love story with Nazanin Mandi began in their teens, spanning nearly two decades before they tied the knot in 2018 and officially split in 2022.
The R&B singer explained, “The f**ked up part is that people start doing the wrong math. Miguel continued, “The one thing I did not do was start a relationship while I was married and then have a baby. I got divorced. I met my sons mom after we were divorced. I met her at an event we werent even supposed to go to. That was well after we were done.” Additionally, he said, “I’m proud to be a father. I’m proud of my partner…he couldn’t have a better mother.”
The Shade Room comment section was buzzing with mixed reactions to Miguels revelations. Some fans felt he wasted Nazanins time after nearly two decades together, while others used the moment to remind women not to wait around for a man to change. And of course, plenty kept it honest, acknowledging that breakups happen and sometimes people grow apart.
One Instagram user @amber.aligns said, “At least she left the situation child free. Thats the true blessing“
Meanwhile, Instagram user @bella.sylk wrote, “He strung Nazanin along for years and immediately had a baby with another woman before the ink was dry in the paperwork.“
While Instagram user @thedededoll added, “He said a bunch of NOTHING but okayyy”
And, Instagram user @__anoek__ commented, “Ladies leave dont stay for 20 yrs . Dont give men your life“
This Instagram user @joseydemetria said, “I respect how fast [men] move on.. woman ‘healing’ is a myth you’re not sick!! MOVE On!!“
Finally, Instagram user @thehttstgirlevr shared, “Bro people break up. And people find someone new . Whats the problem.“
Lets see why Miguel had to clear up those rumors, because the timeline had folks confused. In October 2022, news broke that his marriage had officially ended but things werent so clear-cut before that. After announcing their separation in 2021, Miguel and his ex were spotted cozying up in early 2022, with cryptic-but-lovey captions like “Love heals” and “Proud of us” that had fans thinking a reconciliation was in motion. They even slid into The Shade Room by March, confirming they were working things out. But fast forward just a few months, and it was officially a wrap with irreconcilable differences and a prenup sealing the deal.
