I told you this s**t was going down. F**k what they said, I told ya Netflix would come around…

The comedian then went on to explain why she titled the special My Name Is Mo’Nique. She also explained what viewers can expect from the film.

I give y’all my word, after 72 minutes, y’all gon’ know why this s**t is called My Name is Mo’Nique… Y’all might say, ‘Damn, we didn’t know we were going to find out all of that.’ Yes!… This one right here is personal. This one right here… when you walk away from this one, when you turn your TV off from this one, you’ll say, ‘now we understand that woman.’

Mo’Nique went on to explain that there are things she is going to divulge in this special that she never expected to.

Before, I felt like I was just focused on being funny. Now I feel like I have something to say.

More About Mo’Nique & Netflix’s Previous Legal Battle

According to Okayplayer, Mo’Nique filed a gender and racial discrimination lawsuit against the company in 2019. The legal move was reportedly made because the comedian felt the company extended her a “lowball offer” in 2017.

Mo’Nique further explained that the company offered her $500,000 dollars for a one-hour standup special. In contrast to other comedians such as Dave Chappelle, Amy Schumer, Chris Rock, and others who were reportedly earning larger amounts for their Netflix specials.

As previously reported by The Shade Room, the comedian shared a brief statement when she announced the lawsuit.

I can confirm that today I filed a pay discrimination lawsuit against Netflix. I had a choice to make: I could accept what I felt was pay discrimination or I could stand up for those who came before me and those who will come after me. I chose to stand up.

According to Vulture, the lawsuit was settled between the parties in 2022, for “undisclosed terms.”
