One month into 2022, Rihanna blessed the world with a street-casual-style pregnancy announcement alongside boyfriend A$AP Rocky. Since then, the superstar has bumped and glowed her way through plenty of paparazzi shots! Now, Vogue has landed the superstar and her growing baby bump on their May cover.
Rih spoke about being fashionable while pregnant, finding love with Rocky, and preparing to welcome their little one in the accompanying Vogue interview.
If you were wondering, Rihanna is also still shocked about carrying her future heir or heiress in her belly. She told Vogue writer Chioma Nnadi,
“As much as it’s happening, it’s also not happening.” The singer even admitted that “sometimes [she’ll] walk past [her] reflection and be like ‘oh sh*t.'”
Although Rih’s new journey has her saying yes more often, Rih confessed not much is different about her so far. In her words, “none of the dials are turned down.”

Rihanna On Pregnancy Fashion
One thing that certainly hasn’t changed: Rihanna’s bold fashion choices. If you’ve been keeping up with her recent looks, you’re aware that the ‘Diamonds’ singer has no intentions of hiding her bump. She’s maintained the energy from her pregnancy announcement. Rihanna’s power has been bumpin’ in designer fits while walking past camera clicks!
“When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, There’s no way I’m going to go shopping in no maternity aisle. I’m sorry—it’s too much fun to get dressed up. I’m not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing,” Rihanna said in her third trimester.
For RiRi, it’s all about inspiring other mamas to break the model of pregnancy fashion.
“I’m hoping that we were able to redefine what’s considered ‘decent’ for pregnant women,” Rihanna said. “My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?”
Rihanna & A$AP Rocky Went From The Friend Zone To Future Parents
As for A$AP Rocky, he had to “work, work, work, work, work” for Rihanna’s romantic heart. It took a hot minute before Rih got over their familiarity with each other and “how much trouble” they could land each other in. One such instance is when Rocky grabbed Rihanna’s butt while performing together at the 2012 VMAs. Still, the incident didn’t deter a friendship. By the time COVID rolled around, Rihanna and Rocky began moving into a space that led to him becoming like “[her family.]”
During lockdown in the summer of 2020, the pair took a road trip from Los Angeles to New York. Imagine Rihanna cooking barefoot on a Walmart-bought grill– which she still has, by the way. Meanwhile, A$AP Rocky worked on tie-dying t-shirts bought at gas stations.
“I love the simple things but also the grand adventures,” Rihanna told Vogue. “There’s no pretentious my-brand-your-brand bullsh*t, it’s just us living. I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side.”
What Rihanna loves most about their relationship is everything their collective wealth can’t buy.
“What I love the most about us? Transparency with everything: how we’re feeling, what our goals are, what our fears and insecurities are,” Rihanna said. “The vulnerability to be able to say what you feel about each other.”

Rihanna says there were no plans for her pregnancy — or prevention of one, between her and Rocky. Her words were, “we just had fun.” Then, one day a pregnancy test read positive. She immediately shared the news with the daddy-to-be and visited the doctor’s office the following day.
Rihanna Talks Making Preparations For Her Unborn Baby
Rihanna isn’t positive about what her life will look like post-pregnancy but, says she knows exactly what she doesn’t want leading up to the birth. A brunch or animal theme or blush tones for her baby shower? Issa no. Rihanna wants a co-ed with everyone “plastered and crawling out” type of celebration.
And despite the gender buzz a pit stop at Target recently created, Rihanna and Rocky are remaining tight-lipped until further notice. And there’s no plans for a reveal.
At the time of the interview, Rihanna hadn’t purchased a thing for their little one, but Rocky, she said, already had ideas for the nursery. And what happens if their ‘fashion killa,’ as Rih lovingly calls her baby, doesn’t actually like fashion?
“Don’t say that! You just broke my heart!” Rihanna told Vogue’s Chioma. “Yo! That is the day that I will have a problem, if my child don’t like fashion? What?? You’ve got me so nervous!”
For Rihanna, motherhood is about being a guide, but also a student.
“They’re going to teach me more than I could ever teach them. And I want them to go for it. I want to see who they are in the world, who they become,” Rihanna said. “Because I’m just here to keep them on the rails—a passenger as much as the driver.”
