Revenge of the BBWs: Lane Bryant's Q&A Backfires Big Time!

Revenge of the BBWs: Lane Bryant’s Q&A Backfires Big Time!

As a plus size girl myself, I think that it’s so necessary for businesses to learn how they can include and associate themselves with more diversity. It’s tough for us girls out here to get past body shaming, even with ourselves, but I am not going to preach today! Many of you may have tuned into the Victoria’s Secret fashion show last night! It’s tradition around Christmas time to get familiar with the new VS Angels as well as their…assets.
Speaking of assets, Lane Bryant held a Q&A called #AskLaneBryant for their Twitter followers during the fashion show last night. Shade or nah? Whatever the case, this is strike two for them in the eyes of Victoria’s Secret fans, because earlier this year, they launched an #ImNoAngel campaign. It celebrates curvier women who don’t fit the cookie-cutter image of beauty, hence the I’m No Angel” hashtag. It was clearly our turn in the ongoing battle between the big girls and the skinny minnies. Since Lane Bryant was bold enough to launch a Q&A for plus sized women on Twitter, these same women did not hold back. Get ready to clutch your pearls!
Fellow tweeter, @femmina asked, “Why do you hire thin women to work in yr stores and then apparently encourage them to tell me about how “slimming” stuff is?” Why are there slimming garments in a store who encourages women to love their bodies such as they are? I’m sure, at some point, you’ve wanted to know why the models on certain websites aren’t the best representation of plus size women. “When will we see size22+ model not only in a campaign/ad but also product shots on website?” @ecurvynchic tweeted.
You can get into more of the responses below, but I have to commend Lane Bryant for even opening themselves up like this! There’s no better way for you to know how to better your company than to get information from the people who do the most for you. Now, whether or not it was shade that they did this during the VS fashion show, it still has everybody talking about body image issues and that’s great! That’s REAL!
