Social media is reacting to a clip of Anthony Edwards telling former President Barack Obama to “stand down” while they discussed basketball.
According to Sports Illustrated, Edwards was one of the many Olympic athletes featured in the Netflix series ‘Court of Gold.’ Furthermore, a clip from the show shows former president Obama speaking with Edwards and 76ers player Joel Embiid. In the clip, Obama asks Embiid to share his thoughts on Edwards’ basketball skills.
As the two men share their thoughts, Edwards chimes in with, “Man, y’all better stand down. I’m the truth.”
As the conversation continues, Obama appears to poke light fun at Edwards and Embiid getting “scored on.” However, Edwards’ response and tone toward the former president ultimately captured viewers.

While Instagram user @cedrichunt2 added, “This just seriously pissed me off. Im not saying you have to kiss behind but respect his office. This generation of young black men is sad. When Jordan and Kobe spoke they sounded like grown educated men, he sounds like a street dude thats trying to be cool.”
Instagram user @lexitelevision wrote, “That wasnt just barbershop talk, it was a young man whose body language and speech resonated attitude, entitlement, arrogance, lack of respect, and little education. And if you do this with one of the most respected black men in the United States”
While Instagram user @triciasmithbrown added, “Anthony needs to look up and STUDY one word. DECORUM. This is not the way that you interact with President Barack Obama.”
As The Shade Room previously reported, Anthony Edwards made headlines in October 2024 alongside Ayesha Howard. On October 10, Edwards reportedly filed a petition to determine whether he was the father of Howard’s then-unborn baby girl. If Edwards was found to be the father, his petition reportedly requested that paternity be established.
Later that month, Howard welcomed her baby girl.
Around that same time, Edwards’ girlfriend spoke out, seemingly addressing various reports of him welcoming children with other women. Per In Touch Weekly, Edwards has reportedly filed documents asserting his lack of interest in visitation or custody of his and Howard’s child. Instead, Edwards has asserted that the “only issues to be resolved are financial in nature.”
