Steph Curry To Sponsor The Golf Program At Howard University

It looks like golf is officially making a comeback at Howard University thanks to the help of Steph Curry.

According to ESPN, on Monday, Steph announced that he would financially support the Bison’s golf teams for the next six years. Howard plans to have their men and women’s golf teams up and running for the 2020-2021 season.

The idea of bringing golf back to Howard came about earlier this year after meeting Howard senior and golfer Otis Ferguson IV during a visit to the campus to watch a documentary.

Steph said, “The idea around re-creating Howard’s golf team and turning it into a Division I program for men and women was born on that specific night. Now, seven and a half or eight months later, we’re here.”

Howard previously competed at the Division II level. According to school officials, they believe the team disbanded some time during the 1970s.

In a previous release, Steph said, “Golf is a sport that has changed my life in ways that are less tangible, but just as impactful. It’s a discipline that challenges your mental wherewithal from patience to focus and is impossible to truly master, so when you hear about these passionate student-athletes who have the talent but don’t have a fair shot at the game, it’s tough. I feel really honored to play a small role in the rich history of Howard University.”
