Today’s Kids Will Never Know What 106 & Park’s Top 10 Countdown Looked Like 18 Years Ago!

I know many of us couldn’t wait for 6pm to hit so we could turn to BET to watch “106 & Park’s Top 10 Live.” Not only were we able to watch our favorite music videos, but we were able to see some of our favorite celeb interviews and live performances.

The inception of “106 & Park” was definitely an era that can never be forgotten and was such a staple within the culture. Many of us made it a ritual to finish our homework just in time to turn on the show, just so we could feel a little closer to some of our favorite celebs.

The show first aired back in 2000 and created so many memorable moments for the culture throughout the 13 years that it remained on television. Viewers were first introduced to the music video countdown show through hosts Free and AJ Calloway.

After spending five years on the show, a list of other hosts would eventually join. Big Tigga from “Rap City in the Basement,” moved on over to the show with Julissa, and after their time on the show, BET was on the hunt for some new faces.

As a result, Rocsi Diaz and Terrence J were chosen and actually became the longest-running hosts on the show as they appeared on the show from 2006-2012. Other names would eventually join the show for the remainder of its time on the network, but it’s worth noting that Bow Wow, who earned the title of “Mr. 106 & Park,” during his younger years, was one of the final hosts of the show.

18 years ago, artists such as Maxwell, Destiny’s Child, Jay-Z, and Usher were dominating the countdown and the music scene. Now 18 years later, and those very artists are still out here killing the game.

Swipe through and go down memory lane to see what the top 10 countdown looked like 18 years ago.
