TSR POLITICS: Life With Hillary

It’s January 2017 and Hillary Clinton is our president.

I’m still trying to convince my dad to let me apply to an HBCU. I mean PWIs are cool but HBCUs are where it’s at. I’m torn between North Carolina A&T and Fisk. If I leave home and go to A&T I heard Hillary got the green light to allow my PELL grant to go fully toward my living expenses. Can you say LITTTT?! And If I get into Fisk that $25 billion private HBCU fund she put together will benefit me, the middle income student. I keep trying to explain this to my father but he’s so hell-bent on these loans. Newsflash, dad, its 2017 not 1975 –-there’s now a such thing as not paying tuition if a family makes less than $85k a year. It’s only 2017 but by 2021 my little sister will definitely have that tuition-free experience. As for me, for now, my dad needs to let me flourish!

Can I just say how excited I am for my mom! Okay so I used to resent her so much for leaving my dad for a woman but nothing compares to my anger toward the military discharging her because she’s bisexual. What does that have to do with her service to the country? Anyways her service record has officially been upgraded due to her early discharge because of it! Guess who’s eligible for VA benefits now?! My momma! Go mommy!

Not to harp on this HBCU stuff but OMG I can’t help but to think about my future! There’s no way I’m letting any HBCU miss out on my attendance! Imagine Hillman without Denise. Impossible right? More importantly than school, I can’t wait to start my career! ESPECIALLY since the pay gap has been closed. I honestly think we deserve a few decades of earning more than men but I’ll take equal pay as a start.

And to think I almost didn’t vote in November. I was one of those people who didn’t believe in either of the candidate and honestly was riding with Hillary just because she wasn’t Trump and on top of all that, I really wasn’t ready to see anyone take Obama’s shine but I guess Hillary kept good on her promises she made to snag the black vote. Anyone fighting for my rights a woman, my mom’s LGBT rights, my dad’s healthcare, and education is good in my book. Of course the country still has a long ways to go but nonetheless we didn’t completely fail as a unit by letting Trump in.

I convinced myself to just go ahead and apply for both A&T and Fisk. WHEN I get accepted I’ll just have to let my dad know I have to do this for ME. After all, he didn’t even vote so he doesn’t understand my excitement for what’s in store for me!

Catch up with you guys later!
