Although Mustard filed for divorce from Chanel Thierry, he hasn’t abandoned his respect for his former lady of 12 years. As previously reported, Mustard submitted paperwork this week to end his marriage of 1.5 years. The couple began dating in their late teens and early 20s, before getting engaged in 2018 and exchanging vows in October 2020. On Friday night, the award-winning producer finally broke his silence on the filing to address infidelity rumors surrounding the couple.
“It’s one thing to have my family business on the internet and of course, I initially didn’t respond cause I don’t owe the public no explanation but I do owe my family to clear these false narrative[s] that @ChanelDijon cheated that’s out and never happened,” Mustard wrote on his Instagram Story.
Mustard Files For Divorce From Chanel Thierry After 1.5 Years
Rumors began circulating about the end of the former couple’s love story shortly after news broke of the filing on Tuesday. Per court documents obtained by Complex, Mustard submitted the legal paperwork on Monday, May 2 citing “irreconcilable differences.”
Mustard also listed the date of his separation from Chanel as May 2. This detail, in particular, fueled online chatter about what went wrong with the beloved couple. While Mustard remained quiet until Friday, Chanel spoke out on her Insta Story hours after the news hit the internet.
“Thank you for the kind words, thoughts and prayers. Anyone that followed me or knows me personally knows my family means the world to me,” Chanel wrote. “I’ve [dedicated] 12 loyal years and it is more [than] heartbreaking to see things end.”
Mustard Denies Cheating Was The Reason Behind His Divorce Filing
Still, the internet ran wild with the talks of unfaithfulness ruining the couple’s union. But, it hasn’t all been directed at Chanel. In fact, in his statement Mustard denied that lack of loyalty on either side caused the divorce.
“Also the I fake dealt with my stylist come on now we all know that’s a joke I’d never touch that girl EVER,” Mustard wrote. “At this time man we just trying to deal with our family matters privately. We’ve shared 12 years together so I’m sure y’all can respect this ain’t [an] easy issue. We just ask for privacy I’m human with kids old enough to read if y’all can’t respect us at least respect that.”
Mustard and Chanel share three children together: 10-year-old Kiylan, seven-year-old Kauner and two-year-old Kody. Per court docs, Mustard is seeking joint legal and physical custody. Apparently, the former pair also have a prenup in place.
