Wearing A Mask During Sex & Avoiding Kissing New People Are Advised By Top Doctors To Stop The Spread Of COVID-19

#Roommates, although we are several months into the COVID-19 pandemic, health experts are still alerting the public on ways to stop the spread—and if you already hate wearing a mask, you probably won’t like this new advice. A leading physician recently stated that she advises wearing a mask during sex and avoiding kissing new people can reduce the chances of contracting COVID-19.

According to a top Canadian doctor, if you want to significantly reduce your chances of potentially contracting COVID-19, you need to stock up on plenty of masks…and wear them while having sex. @CNN reports, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, released a statement earlier this week on staying safe from COVID-19 when engaging in sexual activities. “Sexual health is an important part of our overall health. However, sex can be complicated in the time of COVID-19…with risks increasing for partners engaging with people outside their household.”

Dr. Tam says once you’ve established enough trust in your relationship, sexual partners should also consider using a mask that covers the nose and mouth. She also added that “current evidence indicates there is a very low likelihood of contracting the novel coronavirus through semen or vaginal fluids. However, even if the people involved do not have symptoms, sexual activity with new partners does increase your risk of getting or passing COVID-19 through close contact, like kissing.”

Additionally, Dr. Tam states that self-pleasure is her preferred method of sexual interaction, but in the event that you do engage with a partner, she has other suggestions for reducing contact and hopefully remaining virus-free.

“The lowest risk sexual activity during Covid-19 involves yourself alone and avoiding face-to-face contact or closeness,” she said. Sex should be avoided entirely if either person has COVID-19 symptoms and “limiting your use of alcohol and other substances so you and your partner(s) are able to make safe decisions.”
