Erica Mena had a lot to say after her ex-husband Safaree Samuels said his breakup with Nicki Minaj was the “biggest struggle” he’s had to overcome.

Safaree Samuels Opens Up About His Breakup With Nicki Minaj
Last week, the ‘We In Miami’ podcast took to Instagram to reveal that Safaree was the latest guest on the show. Then, earlier this week, the podcast shared a promotional clip of one of the topics discussed with the rapper.
In the clip, the host asked Safaree what the “biggest struggle or obstacle” he’d “ever had to overcome” was. In response, the rapper explained that after his breakup with Minaj, “her fans and certain people” wanted to “let him be nothing.”
“I was with Nicki, we broke up, so her fans and certain people, they just wanted it to be like, ‘Oh okay, they’re not together no more — f**k him. Let him be nothing, let him disintegrate, let him disappear…'” Safaree recalled. ” But nine — ten years later… I’m still here, and you know, some people don’t like that.”
Safaree went on to explain that after he and Minaj broke up, she began dating fellow rapper Meek Mill, “and they were like the biggest [couple] in the world.” Additionally, he explained that they were “all beefing.”
“You gotta think about it — I had two of the biggest people in the world like against me,” Safaree said. “So that made everybody be against me. So nobody wanted to be next to me, nobody wanted to work with me or none of that s**t….”
The rapper ultimately explained that that period was a “dark time” for him.

Erica Mena Reacts To The Nicki Minaj Comments Alongside Social Media
Safaree’s comments sparked a plethora of reactions in The Shade Room’s comment section.
Mena herself even stepped in to share a few words about her ex-husband.
“… I will FOREVER be embarrassed,” she wrote. “I gave sis these incredible beautiful babies. He don’t even talk or care about his seeds this much online or [in] real life.”
At this time, Safaree has not publicly reacted to his ex-wife’s comments.
This Isn’t The First Time Erica Mena Has Publicly Blasted Safaree
According to Pinkvilla, Safaree dated Minaj between 2000 and 2014. As The Shade Room previously reported, the rapper then tied the knot with Mena in 2019.
In 2021, however, Mena filed for divorce from Safaree while pregnant with their second child, per The Shade Room.
At that point, the pair’s relationship appeared to take a turn for the worse as Mena accused Safaree of being negligent during her pregnancy. Additionally, once their second child was born, Safaree was reportedly spotted celebrating his birthday in Jamaica while the child remained in NICU, per The Shade Room.
In September of 2022, the pair’s divorce was finalized. However, Mena would later blast Safaree for making her a “single mother twice,” per The Shade Room.
In April of 2023, things heated up between the ex-couple when Safaree apparently gifted Rolex watches to the children of their ‘Love & Hip Hop’ castmate Amara Le Negra, per The Shade Room. Mena ultimately called Safaree a “deadbeat clown.”
At the time, Safaree’s lavish gifts to La Negra’s children sparked confusion about whether they were dating, per The Shade Room. However, later that year, La Negra appeared to reveal that their suggested romance was ployed for TV ratings.
