Spotify CEO Says Their Decision To Remove R. Kelly & XXXTentacion From Playlists Was ‘Rolled Out Wrong’

Spotify CEO’s is speaking out about the company’s controversial decision to remove artists like R. Kelly and XXXTentacion from their playlists based on “hateful conduct.”

“We rolled this out wrong and could have done a much better job,” CEO Daniel Ek admitted at a recent conference, according to Variety.

He went on to say that the new policy is too ambiguous and open to interpretation, even thought it is still currently listed on their website.

“The whole goal with this was to make sure that we didn’t have hate speech,” Ek added. “It was never about punishing one individual artist or even naming one individual artist.”

As we previously reported, R. Kelly’s music was removed from the platform’s playlists after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct with underage girls. XXXTentacion’s music was also removed after being charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman.
