Damon Dash, also known as Dame Dash, is speaking on Irv Gotti‘s recent passing while revealing the details of one of their final text conversations.
On Thursday, February 6, Dash took to his YouTube channel, America Nu Network, for a livestream Q&A session with Kenyetta Griggs. About a minute into the sitdown, Dash explained that he wasn’t “surprised” about Gotti’s passing “based on what [he] knew about Gotti’s health and how he was approaching it.” However, his death “was still shocking.”
Despite their ups and downs, Dash explained that he and Gotti were always “brothers.”
About nine minutes and thirty seconds into the sitdown, Dash shared that despite this, he and Gotti “weren’t seeing eye to eye for the last couple of years.”
“But when I found out his struggles, I texted him, and I said, ‘Irv, regardless of what[ever], we brothers, you know, and I don’t want to see you die… Let me know how I can help you,'” Dash recalled texting Gotti.
According to Damon Dash, Gotti texted back, “Yo, I’m getting better, Dame.”
Dash went on to say that if he had been more involved in Gotti’s life, he would’ve shown him “tough love” and made healthy living “a lifestyle for him.”
“I would’ve made it uncool to neglect your health like to die over food don’t make no sense! It just don’t. Food is not that good that you should be leave this world for it and that your family should have you be absent,” Dash stated.

As Dame Dash noted, his relationship with Gotti appeared to have ups and downs. According to Complex, in August 2023, Gotti appeared on ‘Drink Champs.’ At the time, he seemingly implied that Dash did not contribute to the musical success of Roc-A-Fella records. Instead, Gotti said Dash and others were just “along for the ride.”
“I don’t give a f**k about what Dame Dash says,” Gotti reportedly told the podcast hosts amid the conversation.
In September 2023, Dash reacted to Gotti’s comments on ‘The CEO Show,’ per HotNewHipHop.
“Irv is my brother, so sometimes I worry about his mental health. What I see him doing is celebrating, taking his artists masters and selling them and saying, ‘You know, this is how I make my money,’ and thats the furthest thing that I would ever do with any one of my artists,” Dash reportedly explained at the time.
As The Shade Room previously reported, Irv Gotti passed away on Wednesday, January 5, at the age of 54. At this time, his cause of death remains unknown. However, reports have surfaced alleging he experienced multiple strokes before his passing.
To date, Gotti’s children, ex-wife, brother, and ‘Murder Inc’ collaborator, Ashanti, have reacted to his passing.
