And Another Thing! What's Up With The Lawsuits Sean 'Diddy' Combs Faced Going Into His Criminal Trial? (UPDATES)
Share

In a span of 10 months, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ reputation as a hip hop legend took jabs as multiple people came forward with sexual assault-related lawsuits. While the suits are civil, he’s standing trial in New York City as of May 12 for racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution charges. He has pleaded not guilty, much like the lawsuit allegations he HAS responded to.

How Many Lawsuits Is Diddy Facing?

According to The Cut, in less than a year, Sean Combs faced at least 12 lawsuits related to sexual assault and abuse. Two arrived in May for alleged assaults in the late 90s and early 2000s.  Earlier this month, former Dainty Kane member Dawn Richard came forward with sexual abuse allegations. A woman also accused Combs and his former bodyguard of raping her and recording the assault.

As of Monday, May, USA Today reports that more than 70 lawsuits have been filed against Sean Combs. In October, Tony Buzbee shocked the internet when he announced he’d represent at least 120 individuals with accusations against the producer.

Cassie To Play MAJOR Role In Trial Against Diddy

The man once known for award-winning music, funding schools for the unprivileged, and throwing exclusive parties is now being associated with disgraced and predatory entertainment moguls. That list includes Bill Cosby, R. Kelly, and Harvey Weinstein, to name just a few.

The prosecution is going hard in describing sex crimes at drug-fueled, highly organized parties known as “Freaksoffs.” His team is arguing that he’s being charged for the wrong crimes, racketeering and prostitution, when it should be domestic violence, at most, for the “consensual” acts.

As the trial unfolds, let’s look at some of the lawsuits Diddy is still facing, and how a few others were resolved, starting with the one that broke the ice: Cassie. Her bombshell accusations got the ball rolling for civil lawsuits and these criminal charges. She’s expected to testify early in the trial, but two witnesses have already testified about Diddy’s violence against her.

Recap Of Singer’s Settled Lawsuit Against Combs

In her Nov. 2023 lawsuit, Cassie exposed another side of her public relationship with Diddy from 2007 to 2018. She labeled the romantic and sexual aspects of it “manipulative and coercive, “accusing Combs of sexually assaulting, abusing, and trafficking her. Within a day, Diddy settled the lawsuit for an undisclosed amount. At the time, his lawyer insisted in a statement that the settlement was “in no way an admission of wrongdoing.” So far, Diddy’s criminal trial has seemingly revealed that they settled for $30 million.

“Mr. Combs‘ decision to settle the lawsuit does not in any way undermine his flat-out denial of the claims. He is happy they got to a mutual settlement and wishes Ms. Ventura the best,” the lawyer said.

Exactly six months after the Nov. 17 settlement announcement, surveillance footage surfaced of Diddy’s abuse. He was seen dragging, kicking, and throwing a glass vase at Cassie in a Los Angeles hotel hallway. Despite Diddy’s lawyer standing on his innocence, the footage corroborates at least one incident of abuse that Cassie described in the lawsuit. Days after the footage became public via CNN, Diddy apologized for his past actions, but not specifically to Cassie or any other alleged victim. Reports later claimed the terms of their lawsuit settlement restricted him.

THIS Many Lawsuits Are Anonymous & Several Name Hamptons Parties As Site Of Assault

USA Today reports that at least 45 of the lawsuits filed in court are under anonymous status, and detail sex crimes as far back as 1991 and as recent as 2024.

Accusers range in age, from minors to adults, and in gender from female to male. Multiple cases happened in New York City, and listed private parties, such as his Hamptons White Party, as the scene of the assault.

One man says he was 16 years old when Diddy allegedly made him expose himself in front of guests at a white party in 1998 as a “rite of passage.” Another lawsuit describes an incident of a 19-year-old allegedly being sodomized and raped by Combs and three other men at a Hamptons White Party in 2003. He had initially been hired as a DJ. A Texas woman says she was assaulted at the same party the following year, claiming she was drugged and woke up the next day with pain in her vaginal and anal areas. In 2006, a man said he was working as a security guard at a same-themed party when Diddy drugged him, shoved him into a van, and sexually assaulted him. A similar incident reportedly happened to an 18-year-old woman in 2007 at the same party.

Woman Who Accused Diddy Of Gang-Raping Her Ordered To Reveal Identity

In December 2023, Combs was hit with his fourth lawsuit since Cassie filed the month before. The plaintiff kept her identity anonymous under Jane Doe, but accused Diddy of participating in her being “gang raped” in 2003 when she was 17. About a year later, a judge ordered her to reveal her identity as Anna Kane.

Kane accused the former president of Bad Boy Records, Harve Pierre, and an unnamed male associate of also assaulting her. In her lawsuit, Jane Doe claimed she met Pierre at a Detroit lounge and then traveled with him and a third man to New York City on a private jet Diddy allegedly sponsored. They met at his studio, where Kane alleges all three men gave her drugs and alcohol, flirted with her, and groped her body.

The filing includes multiple color photos of that evening, including one with Jane Doe sitting in Diddy’s lap. By the end of the evening, Doe says all three men took turns penetrating her in nonconsensual sex. Following the rapes, Jane Doe was reportedly taken back to the airport and flown back to Michigan — a journey she had “very limited recollection” of.

Jane Doe Alleges She Became Pregnant After Sexual Assault

September 27, 2024:

This is the second lawsuit since Diddy’s arrest and the 12th in less than a year. TMZ reportedly reviewed court documents filed by Jane Doe via attorney Joseph L. Ciaccio. It was filed on Friday and alleges multiple incidents of sexual assault in a four-year period that began in 2020. Additionally, the paperwork claims Jane Doe fell pregnant but later suffered a miscarriage.

They reportedly met overseas, and she later joined him on an all-expenses-paid trip. Between 2021 and 2022, she says they had frequent link-ups, including at his homes in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and elsewhere.

However, during those encounters, the woman accuses Diddy of spiking her drinks and forcing her to have sex on multiple occasions, including in April 2022. She recalled finding bruises and a bite mark on her feet but being unable to remember what happened.

Jane Doe alleges she became pregnant in July 2022 after Combs allegedly forced her to take ketamine, per the documents. She claims that the producer’s associates harassed her about getting an abortion, but she ultimately miscarried.

She’s seeking an unspecified amount in damages.

Jay-Z Is Suing Woman For Naming Him In Diddy Lawsuit

Another common theme of assault was following an award show, at least in two anonymous lawsuits. A male personal trainer accused Diddy of assaulting him at an award show afterparty in June 2022.

Meanwhile, one accuser represented by Tony Buzbee dismissed her lawsuit “with prejudice” several months after filing. Jane Doe came under fire after naming Jay-Z as an alleged witness of an assault by Diddy when she was 13 following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Jay-Z and his team didn’t hold back while denying the claims, and he’s since turned the tables, suing the accuser and Tony for defamation, malicious prosecution, and abuse of process. Audio has also been released of the woman claiming her lawyer, Tony, pressured her into the suit.

Joi Dickerson-Neal & Liza Gardner File Against Diddy On The Same Day

November 23, 2023:

Within days of Cassie filing and settling her lawsuit against Diddy, three more women came forward. Two women filed on the same day, Nov. 23.

Joi Dickerson-Neal alleged that the mogul drugged and secretly recorded himself sexually assaulting her in 1991. At the time, she was reportedly a college student, per Forbes.

The other person who filed on the same day as Joi remained anonymous until recently. Liza Gardner accused Combs and singer-songwriter Aaron Hall of raping her and a friend in 1990 or 1991, per NBC News. She was allegedly 16 at the time.

Former Employee 'Lil Rod' Sues

Feb. 26, 2024:

In Feb., Combs’ former producer and videographer, Rodney’ Lil Rod’ Jones, filed a bombshell lawsuit against him. During his employment, Lil Rod alleges Diddy used multiple methods in an attempt to “groom” him into sexual relations. Those methods reportedly included groping his genitals, parading around naked, and assault from associates connected to and directed by Diddy.

In the initial filing, Rodney Jones accused a cousin of Yung Miami’s of sexually assaulting him.

He later named Diddy’s son Justin Combs and Stevie J as defendants. Both, like Combs, via his lawyer, denied the accusations in the lawsuit.

Jones amended the lawsuit on March 25, the same day Homeland Security raided Diddy’s homes in Miami and Los Angeles. Justin and Christian Combs were temporarily detained at one of the raids as part of standard procedure.

Other defendants in Lil Rod’s suit include Combs’s chief of staff, Kristina Khorram; Universal Music Group CEO Sir Lucian Grainge; and former Motown Records CEO Ethiopia Habtemariam.

April 5, 2024:

Grace O’Marcaigh took to the Los Angeles County Superior Court to file a lawsuit against Diddy’s son, 26-year-old Christian Combs, per NBC News. She accused Christian of sexually violating her in December 2022 during a family boat charter while she was working as a stewardess. The suit also cites sexual harassment and inflection of emotional distress.

Diddy was named in the suit as liable for the assault due to the yacht charter being in his name. Grace also alleges that Combs aided and abetted the sexual assault.

At the time, Crystal was 22 and met the mogul at a fashion event in New York City. He allegedly invited her to his studio, where she hit a “very powerful” joint allegedly laced with another narcotic.

Michigan Inmate Wins $100M Default Judgment In Diddy Lawsuit, Judge Overturns It

September 9, 2024:

Michigan inmate Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith filed a civil lawsuit against Combs in July, alleging sexual assault at a 1997 party.

After Combs failed to appear for a virtual hearing on Sept. 9, Judge Anna Marie Anzalone ruled in Derrick’s favor in the amount of $100 million in damages. The reward must be paid in monthly $10 million installments starting in October 2024.

As previously reported, Cardello-Smith claims that Sean Combs drugged and sexually assaulted him after meeting at a restaurant in Detroit. Derrick’s lawsuit claimed that Combs touched his buttock during an orgy at a party, then gave him a spiked drink that made him pass out. When he regained consciousness, Derrick said Diddy was having sexual relations with a woman and allegedly told him, “I did this to you, too.”

Diddy’s lawyer slammed the lawsuit as a sham, citing the Michigan inmate’s charges of sexual assault and kidnapping. Combs’ legal team also reacted by filing two emergency motions to overturn the judgment.

As of Sept. 18, the default judgment and payment plan no longer apply. A judge set aside the $100 million payout after the producer’s legal team argued that a Michigan inmate didn’t comply with the state law regarding the serving of civil lawsuits. The case has been dismissed multiple times, according to USA Today, and in the latest update, Derrick filed an intention to appeal in March 2025.

September 11, 2024:

As mentioned, Dawn Richard is the latest to join the growing list of Diddy accusers. TMZ first reported her lawsuit on Sept. 11.

Dawn detailed multiple instances of verbal abuse during filming for ‘Making The Band,’ and sexual misconduct in private, including Diddy allegedly fondling her bare breasts and butt in a trailer.

Furthermore, Richard claimed to have witnessed abuse inflicted on Diddy’s ex-girlfriends Kim Porter and Cassie. She alleged that in 2005, she saw Porter leaving the studio with her face “all banged up”

On another occasion, in 2009, Richard said she saw Diddy slam Cassie against a wall, choke her, and drag her up the stairs.

RELATED: UPDATE: Here Are More Details About Dawn Richard’s Lawsuit Against Diddy

Thalia Graves Says Diddy & His Bodyguard Assaulted Her In 2001

September 24, 2024:

Less than two weeks after Richard sued Diddy, a woman named Thalia Graves filed the 11th lawsuit against the producer in ten months.

Graves’ paperwork reportedly reveals that the assault happened in 2001 at Combs’ New York City recording studio, Daddy’s House. Thalia alleges that a few years after meeting the mogul through her ex-boyfriend, an alleged former executive at the Bad Boy label, Combs and his bodyguard assaulted her at the studio.

She accuses Diddy of drugging and bounding her before he allegedly “anally penetrated her without her consent” and slamming her head into a pool table to prevent her escape.

Additionally, Graves claims his former bodyguard, Joseph Sherman, also hit and forced her to give him oral sex. Hours after filing the suit, she held a tearful press conference with her lawyer, Gloria Allred.

Recap: Diddy Custody Details

On Monday (Sept. 16), the FBI arrested Combs at a hotel in New York City. Approximately 30 minutes before being detained, Diddy was filmed having a conversation on a city street. Again, the feds charged him with three felony charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.

Many of the accusations in the back-to-back lawsuits are cited in the feds’ 14-page indictment. Additionally, the paperwork details some evidence, including weapons and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant, found at his mansions from raids earlier this year.

Combs appeared in court on Tuesday, Sept. 17, and prosecutors sought pre-trial detention. A judge granted the request and remanded Brother Love into custody after denying his $50 million bond proposal. The following day, a second judge denied his bail appeal. A third appeal was later rejected. The producer has been behind bars awaiting the trial kickoff. While his family, including his children and mother, attended day one of court, he spent holidays like his 55th birthday, Christmas 2024, and Easter 2025 away from them.
